Narva Trans: football academy, titles and Estonian league record holders

On July 13 Pyunik is starting the fight in the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round. Our rival is Narva Trans from Estonia, which has qualified for this tournament thanks to winning the country's cup. We've studied our future rival and picked out some interesting facts.

The history of Narva Trans begins in 1979. It is noteworthy that the first name of the club was Avtomobilist, because the team was created on the basis of Avtobaza 13 motor transport enterprise. The current name of this team is also associated with it.

In the first decade of its foundation, the team spent 3 seasons in the Estonian SSR championship (1984, 1987 and 1989) but it was finally able to strengthen its position there a little later.

In 1992, the team made its debut in the Estonian Premier League, parallelly developing its children’s and youth football academy. Narva Trans alumnus Maksim Gruznov scored 37 goals for his native team in 2001 and was named the best scorer of the season. The forward overall has made 304 appearances in the Estonian league, setting a league record.

Valeriy Karpin is perhaps the most successful alumnus of Narva. The latter had particularly memorable performances in Spartak Moscow, Real Sociedad, Valencia and Celta, and at present Karpin is the manager of Rostov and the Russia national team.

At present six alumni of the club play in the main lineup of Narva.

The Estonian club has never won a domestic championship in its history, instead it won the Estonian Cup 3 times (2001, 2019, 2023) and the Super Cup 2 times (2007, 2008). Our rival regularly participates in European Cups. Since 1996 Narva has played in the Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Europa League almost every season, however, it hasn’t achieved significant success.

In the 21st century two Armenian footballers played for Narva Trans; Vahagn Harutyunyan from 2001 to 2003 and Levon Ghasaboghlyan in the 2010/2011 season.

Since January 2023, the team has been coached by Sergey Terekhov. As a player, he played 258 games in the Estonian Premier League and scored 51 goals, with Nõmme Kalju he won the country’s championship in 2012 and became a two-time silver medalist (2011 and 2013). Terekhov also played in Russia, Finland and Norway. He played for the Estonian national team from 1997 to 2007 and stood out with 5 goals in 94 matches. After completing his professional career, Terekhov worked as a coach with Estonian teams: he managed Nõmme Kalju and was an assistant in Legion.

In the current season, the team is in 8th place in the Estonian top league, scoring 19 points after 20 rounds. The top scorer of the team in the current season is Tristan Kostor, who scored 8 goals in 18 games.

We are looking for an interesting confrontation and believe in the victory of our team.-
